Newman Science Camp

In my final year of high school, I created Newman Science Camp to promote STEM learning in my feeder school community.

My goals for creating the camp were twofold. Firstly, to spark interest in STEM in young students, and secondly to inspire them to join the high school's FIRST Robotics team in the future.

With the support of the camp mentors, we organized a kick-off event in the elementary school gym to bolster interest.

The response was overwhelming as 30 students from grades 4 and 5 registered for the afterschool science camp.

We were also happy to know there was an even split of girls and boys participating.

The camp ran for five weeks, with a new branch of science being explored every week.

We investigated capillary action, mechanisms, structures, acid-base reactions and fluid properties.

The students had a blast experimenting and observing scientific principles through hands-on activities, and it was my pleasure to lead this camp.
